Este miembre del subgénero Micropiper, se asemeja algo a la especie brasileña P. trineura Miq., de la cual defiere en el pedúnculo que es mucho más corto, los tallos que son más densamente pubescentes y que no son profundamente sulcado-angulados, y en las hojas que son mas delgadas. De P. puerto-ospinana Trel. del Perú, defiere en el pedúnculo y el peciolo que son más cortos, las hojas que son 4-5 verticiladas, menos coriáceas y con una nervación más oscura. [Steyermark, 1984]

  Mature fruits, which were not described in the protologue because of their absence in the type collection, are ellipsoid and about 0.4 mm long. Their surface is covered with sticky papillae only in the apical half (the basal half without papillae, referred to as the pseudocupule, is typical in the subgenus Micropiper). Mature fruits show a marked pseudopedicel of 1 mm long. The persisitent pseudopedicells give the spadices a brushy look once the fruits fall off. The fruits have a short broad apical style and a terminal stigma [Mathieu, 2005, pers. comm.]
